Four of Utah’s resorts are listed among 2018’s top winter destinations nationwide, three of them in the Top 10. Check out Park City Mountain, Snowbird, Powder Mountain and Alta, proof we are still “The greatest snow on earth!”
It’s enough to make anyone load up the ski rack and head for the hills. But before you climb in the family SUV, here are a few things to keep in mind:
• Build up to your ski trip with a few visits to the gym. Heading down the slopes with muscles that spent the last couple of months in hibernation is a recipe for disaster. It is not where you want to start rebuilding your fitness level!
• Dress for the weather. Use layers so you can adjust as you work up a sweat. And keep that moisture from turning you into an icicle by investing in water- and wind-resistant skiwear. It’s NOT what we have in mind when we tell you to chill!
• Don’t forget your sunblock! The reflected sunlight from the snow is a double-whammy, so you’ll want to pack some eye protection, too. And grab some water; it is important to stay hydrated with the added exertion.
• Take a buddy along. Skiing alone is great until something goes wrong, with even a simple twisted ankle can leave you vulnerable to the elements. You don’t want to be stranded until someone notices you missing. Better to have help close at hand than risk more serious injury and problems with exposure.
After, when you need a break, check out this warming hot cocoa. It’s creamy, comforting and laced with a little spice! Can you think of a better way to end a great day? Cheers!
