Adults often love saving water because it involves saving money, in addition to helping the environment. But kids may be reluctant because they don’t see the immediate advantages. Here are a few fun ways to get them involved in water conservation.
Play finders keepers
Adults are so busy with their daily lives, and kids often notice things they don’t. Have your son or daughter let you know whenever they hear or see a faucet dripping. Having a “finder’s fee,” such as a bit of money or special treat will have them keeping their eyes and ears peeled for leaks!
Take fewer baths
The kids will love this one. Is getting them to take baths like pulling teeth? If they’re old enough, let them know they can elect to take showers instead. That’s because baths use about 37 gallons of water, while showers use only about 20.
Do a coloring game
Do your kids love to play with food coloring, but you hate the mess? Make both of you happy with this fun game that also tests for toilet leaks. Put several drops of food coloring in the toilet tank. If you can see the coloring start to appear in the toilet bowl, you have a leak.
